| International Conference in Support of Afghanistan - Paris |

| The government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and representatives of the international community met June 12 in Paris to reaffirm their long-term partnership in support of the people of Afghanistan, their security, prosperity and human rights. The conference was opened by President Nicolas Sarkozy, President Hamid Karzai, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. This conference, co-chaired by Foreign and European Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner, his Afghan counterpart Rangin Dadfar Spanta, and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan Kai Eide, represents the point of departure for a new partnership between Afghanistan and the international community, enabling them to work together more closely in implementing the Afghanistan National Development Strategy (ANDS). |

| The Non-Aligned Movement, Afghanistan in the past, present and future |

| Afghanistan was impartial during the First and Second World War and this factor paved the way for Afghanistan to be a member of the Non-Aligned Movement. Afghanistan, unlike Pakistan and Iran, did not accept to enter into military alliance with the West. Afghanistan attended the Non-Aligned Movement Conferences held in Bandung, Indonesia in April 1955. |

| High-level gathering urges sustained international support for Afghanistan |

| 23 September 2007 – Participants at a high-level meeting convened today at the United Nations by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Afghan President Hamid Karzai called for sustained international efforts to support the war-torn nation as it proceeds on the difficult path towards peace and development. |

| Consultation on Regional Cooperation Strategy of Afghanistan |

| The ANDS Working Group of Regional Cooperation held a special meeting to discuss the First Draft of Regional Cooperation Strategy.
ANDS Director Adib Farhadi welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of Regional Cooperation as a cross-cutting theme in the ANDS and added that it will be a key item of agenda in the forthcoming meeting of the Join Coordination and Monitoring Board (JCMB). |

| Afghanistan Development Forum 2007 |

| In January 2002 the government of Afghanistan agreed to meet with donors every year to review Afghanistan 's development priorities. Since then, three Afghanistan Development Forums (ADFs) in 2003, 2004 and 2005 have laid the foundations for strong-donor government relations. |

| Conference on the Rule of Law in Afghanistan |

| It has been more than five years since the international community committed itself to Afghanistan and major results have been achieved, such that the reconstruction of the country appears to have reached a new phase.
It is widely accepted that the sustainability of Afghanistan’s institutions is not only linked closely to continuing with national economic and social reconstruction but also to tangible progress in establishing the rule of law. In other words, development and security for the Afghan people cannot be achieved unless they can see reasonable prospects for the further consolidation of governance, particularly in the field of the administration of Justice. |

| THE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT CONFERENCE |

| On 4 and 5 June 2007, Kabul will host a high-level international conference on private sector development. The conference has been initiated by the Government of Afghanistan and supported by The Agha Khan Development Network in partnership with the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme and the Asian Development Bank. |

| Third Roundtable on Managing for Development Results |

| Government Officials and development experts from more than 40 developing countries, and from donors agencies, private companies, and NGOs have concluded their summit in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, with a call from stronger action to improve the number and quality of development results achieved with countries own public funds and with international aid.
The Third Roundtable on Managing for Development Results, which was opened by Vietnam 's Deputy Prime Minister, Pham Gia Khiem, demonstrated that significant progress had been made in the field of results management by both developing countries and donors since their last results roundtable in Marrakech , Morocco in 2004.

| The Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan |

| The Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference (RECC) on Afghanistan was held in New Delhi from 18 to 19 November 2006.
The Conference was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Hamid Karzai President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and H.E. Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India. Both leaders stressed on the importance of the development of Afghanistan and the benefits of it to the surrounding regions. |

| The London Conference on Afghanistan |

| The conference provided an opportunity for the Government of Afghanistan to present its Interim National Development Strategy which sets out its political and economic plans and priorities for the next five years. It was also an occasion for the international community to renew its political and financial commitment in support of the Strategy, and of the goals agreed in the Compact. |

| Regional Cooperation Conference in Kabul |

| A Conference on Regional Economic Co-operation took place in Kabul on 4-5 December 2005 which was co-chaired by Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. Representatives from neighboring countries, the G8, the UN and international financial institutions attended this conference. The conference achieved a greater understanding of regional priorities for co-operation and published a "Kabul Declaration" setting out future work.
